I have provided project management services to Flint Group, a privately owned global supplier of inks, colorants, printing systems, chemicals and image transfer products to the printing and packaging industry. The company grew over the last ten years through the merger of Flint Inc, ANI, BASF Printing Systems, Day International and Xeikon. While parts of the market are mature, others are experiencing rapid growth. In response, the company continues to acquire, restructure and re-organise. The two main project management roles delivered legal structure re-organisation and post-merger sales force integration.
I have provided strategy, planning and management facilitation services for the various businesses within a large construction and services organisation. These businesses included undertaking facilities management (‘hard FM’ and ‘soft FM’), plant and fleet leasing, urban development, highways maintenance and energy services. I supported corporate strategy reviews, annual planning rounds and management strategy days, as well as providing case-type investigations into new business and market entry opportunities, and business divestments.
I provided change management and communications support to programmes involving significant changes to the relationship between pharmaceutical companies and prescribing doctors, in particular the introduction of the EFPIA-mandated disclosure of payments to doctors and changes to those payments. The change and communications activities concentrated on the 'HCP Experience' (impact on doctors), examining their reaction and the reaction of pharmaceutical company representatives working with them. I then designed and delivered communications and training programmes for staff in over a hundred countries.
I work directly for the CEO of a plc that has embarked on a programme of related diversification. Tighter environmental legislation, manufacturing volume decline, and increased customer sophistication had led to an overall decline in hazardous waste volumes while creating opportunities in industrial services and management services. To exploit these opportunities, the company had to increase scale, build stronger relationships with 'Tier 1' customers and broaden its capability into the wider market for industrial services. I facilitated, challenged and wrote up the corporate strategy for plc board presentation.
I run group workshops and mock case interview sessions at Cambridge University’s Judge Business School. Once pioneered only by strategy consulting firms, case question interviewing has become increasingly popular with banks, tech firms and many large corporates. Case questions test the candidate’s ability to listen and think under pressure, and launch quickly a persuasive fact-based argument without being distracted by non-verbal cues or irrelevant information. From airline seat pricing to pub chain profitability, the hopeful candidate can never quite anticipate the case that will crop up in an interview.
I have provided interim management services to the healthcare analytics subsidiary of a leading medical publishing and information organisation group. This role managed sales force and sales support activities directly, during the roll out of a beta-stage primary care patient information and analytics system. I have also managed strategy workshops with another medical publisher addressing competitive, portfolio and channel pressures.
